The DrPH is an advanced, professional degree program that focuses on developing future leaders in public health practice, who will advance the public’s health through the integration and application of a broad range of knowledge and analytical skills in leadership, practice, policy analysis, research, program management and professional communication. The program is designed for students who have a previously awarded Master’s degree, preferably a Master of Public Health degree, and at least two years of public health work related experience. Additionally, applicants with a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of public health work-related experience may be considered for admission into the program. Students entering without a prior MPH degree will be required to completer the five core MPH courses offered through MEZCOPH, or their equivalent, in addition to the minimum DrPH credit hours of course work in the major.
There are two major concentration areas of study available to DrPH candidates. Students are required to select either Maternal and Child Health (MCH) or Public Health Policy and Management (PHPM) .

Dissertation (minimum 18 units)
The dissertation is expected to analyze and propose solutions to health management or policy issues by applying new theoretical or analytic advances to current problems in health care.
Minor (minimum 9 units)
The minor area of study can be in other academic doctoral programs in Public Health or in other doctoral programs throughout the university. The minor area of study specifies the number of required minor units (minimum = 9 units).

The PhD Minor in Public Health is designed for individuals from other University of Arizona doctoral degree programs who wish to obtain graduate training in Public Health . The Public Health minor consists of a minimum of three Master of Public Health Core courses and two additional concentration specific courses agreed to by the student and his or her minor advisor.
