Sunnyside and Elvira Advocates for Health (SEA) Activities
The Sunnyside and Elvira Advocates for Health is a group of local community members, service providers, members of the local school district, government officials and staff, business leaders and university program staff.
- SEA provides free fun diabetes workshops for people living with diabetes and their families, in-home diabetes education, as well as presentations on nutrition and physical activity.
The group also collaborates with the Sunnyside Unified school District to influence change in policy, evaluate and improve nutrition and physical activity among the children.
SEA identifies and implements collaborative solutions to improve nutrition and physical activity levels in the broader community including health education events within the local grocery store, family fun nights, basketball clinic for youth, as well as presentations and activities held at local community events.
Additionally, SEA works with community coalitions to reduce substance abuse.
