Biography:
Louis Carlo, MS, has been working in Arizona with educational outreach programs since 1995. These programs have been on a regional, state, and national scale; spanning topics such as student retention, creative writing, human and environmental pesticide safety, and emergency preparedness.
A member of the National Institutes for Water Resources, Carlo was awarded a competitive grant as a Principal Investigator from the UA Technology and Research Initiative Fund (TRIF), Water Sustainability Program. As a grant proposal evaluator for the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Institutes for Water Resources, Carlo evaluated national environmental toxicology related proposals.
Carlo attended the United States Pesticide Regulatory Education Program Worker Protection Law class where he was awarded a worker protection standard certificate from the US EPA Pesticide Regulatory Education Program. This work led Carlo to become a committee member for the EPA National Assessment of the Worker Protection Program, which resulted in the addition of child health protections in the law. He has conducted many lectures, workshops, and seminars throughout Arizona on human and environmental pesticide safety.
Carlo was a co-winner of the 2002 Outstanding Education Award from the American Distance Education Consortium along with peer cooperative extension workers from the University of Minnesota, the University of Washington, and Virginia State University. In this project, he contributed to the development of the first Internet-based National Pesticide Applicator Certification Training platform.
Carlo holds more than 12 years experience with Web site development. He has developed Web sites for outreach educational programs, private businesses, and the first Web site in Puerto Rico for a federal judge. He is now proud and honored to be contributing his skills and experiences to the Arizona Center for Public Health Preparedness, working with a team that is developing the first Arizona public health emergency preparedness certificate course.
