Biography:

Lisa K. Staten, PhD, is an associate professor of public health at The University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. Dr. Staten is Principal Investigator at the Canyon Ranch Center for Prevention and Health Promotion, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Research Center. The mission of the center is to partner with communities in participatory research that promotes the health of multiethnic communities at the Arizona-Sonora, Mexico border.

The center focuses on interventions to prevent chronic disease through community action to change behavior, policy, and the environment. She has been participating in community-based studies and interventions along the border for the past 10 years, including as director of several chronic disease prevention interventions.

Dr. Staten specializes in the area of physical activity promotion and behavior change and has published in the areas of physical activity and nutrition interventions, physical activity methodologies, and minority recruitment. Dr. Staten also works closely with the Arizona Department of Health Services’ Nutrition and Physical Activity and Diabetes programs and the Arizona Steps to a HealthierUS Initiative.
