Improving Native American Health - Carol Goldtooth-BegayCarol Goldtooth-Begay is one of the first Navajo graduate students from the UA to conduct cancer research on the Navajo Nation. While cancer mortality rates in the general U.S. population have declined, they continue to increase among Native American populations. An innovative program at the UA – the Native American Cancer Research Partnership – is training Native American students to be advocates for their people.

Goldtooth-Begay is completing a master’s degree in Public Health and plans to return to the Navajo Nation to help improve access to health care. "The ability to articulate health information in our own language can go a long way toward improving Native health."
