The UA Zuckerman College of Public Health understands the importance of providing service to state and local health departments (including both county and tribal health departments), community health centers, rural health clinics, and hospitals. These entities are responsible for the delivery of the majority of essential public health services in the state of Arizona.
The College has recognized that it plays a key role in providing technical support to the State and local health departments to assist in developing the expertise in core competencies of the workforce, as well as in public health emergency preparedness, building capacity within the organizations and technical assistance in program development and evaluation.
State Collaborations
The UA Zuckerman College of Public Health is working in partnership with the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) to eradicate the dramatic health disparities in our state. The significance of these collaborative efforts has become even more important as the state faces enormous budget challenges. You can read more here.
Rural Health Outreach Evaluations
College faculty and staff have been contracted by local community health centers to conduct evaluations. Project collaborators include the local community health centers, hospitals, county and tribal health departments, Arizona Area Health Education Centers (AHECs), and community-based organizations. Our College provides technical assistance and evaluation services to each of these projects, focusing on the development and implementation of diabetes education and disease management among patients.
Arizona’s Rural Hospital Flexibility Program
The Rural Health Office at the College receives federal authorization to administer Arizona’s Rural Hospital Flexibility Program. Congress created this program in 1997 to sustain health care access for rural residents, improve emergency medical care, and promote linkages between rural hospitals and larger, tertiary care facilities.
