History

 Founded in 2001 by graduating students from Project Jump Start, a community college basic certificate training program for individuals working in the area of health education, outreach, or advocacy.

bullet

Has grown from an initial task force of 4 members to 13 active steering committee members.

bullet

Includes community health workers, “promotoras”, community health representatives, lay health workers, community health advisors, and many other titles as part of the membership.

bullet

 Receives financial and technical support from University of Arizona’s Area Health Education Centers (AzAHEC) Program and the Mel and Enid Zuckerman Arizona College of Public Health.

bullet

To date, members have participated in a leadership development workshop in May 2002 and an advocacy training workshop in January 2003.

bullet

The AzCHOW executive committee and steering committee each meet once a month via teleconference.
