Six Latina Students Receive Scholarships for their Commitment to Serving Latino Communities in Public Health
Six Latina students at the UA Zuckerman College of Public Health have received scholarships in recognition of their commitment and professional goals to serve Latino populations.
The scholarship recipients include master of public health (MPH) students Rebeca A. Arias, Melisa P. Celaya, Charlene Y. Clements, Irene A. Gutierrez, Francisca M. Hernández, and Monica Vasquez.
Nationally, the UA Zuckerman College of Public Health has among the highest percentages of Hispanic and American Indian graduates and students enrolled, according to data from the Association of Schools of Public Health. More...
Study to Assess Health of Residents and Workers
Along the U.S.-Mexico Border
As the United States-Mexico border experiences increasing migration, threat of terrorism and intensive surveillance, Joel Meister, PhD, professor at the UA Zuckerman College of Public Health, is heading a study to look at unique health problems stemming from such recent changes.
Thanks to a $300,000 grant from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Dr. Meister and farm workers’ health and human rights groups, Campesinos Sin Fronteras and Derechos Humanos, will measure the health risks—including stress—of border residents and workers to determine whether their living and working conditions are causing adverse health effects. College Establishes David McEvoy Distinguished Professorship in Public Health; Dr. Carmona Named
Thanks to a generous contribution from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous, the UA Zuckerman College of Public Health, has established the David McEvoy Distinguished Professorship in Public Health.

17th U.S. Surgeon General and professor at the College has been named to this distinguished professorship, which is reserved for faculty members whose exceptional achievements in public health have had both a national and global impact.

David A. McEvoy, JD, who has served on the College's Community Advisory Board for almost nine years and has been a strong supporter and friend of the College, is an attorney with McEvoy, Daniels, and Darcy. He received his bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor graduate degree from the University of Arizona. McEvoy is a past president of the Tucson Alumni Club and of the Arizona Alumni Association. He currently serves as a board member for the University of Arizona Foundation and is a trustee of the Arizona Theatre Company.
Dr. Koss Inducted as College's First Regents' Professor
The Arizona Board of Regents awarded the title of Regents' Professor, the highest designation for professors at the university, to Mary Koss, PhD, professor at the UA Zuckerman College of Public Health. She is the first faculty member at the College named Regent's Professor.
Dr. Koss was inducted at a ceremony in Crowder Hall, Nov. 30, along with UA Professors Carol Barnes, Toni M. Massaro and Mark A. Nichter. More...
