Before entering the program:Prior to my studies at MEZCOPH, I was working as a medical scribe at Northwest Hospital here in Tucson. Armed with my public health degree, I hope to continue my studies and pursue a degree in medicine.
Why did you choose public health?Public health is a field of study that often operates behind the scenes. However, public health plays a role in most people’s life on a daily basis. I chose to pursue a graduate degree in public health because the field targets the masses while tending to the needs of the individuals that comprise them. Not only does public health cater to big populations, but it also targets the individual and promotes change on multiple levels.
Why did you choose MEZCOPH?I completed my undergraduate studies here at the University of Arizona. Since my first day as a freshman and even up until my graduation day, I have truly embraced what it is to be a wildcat for life. When looking for a graduate program of choice, MEZCOPH was my first choice. The reason being that it would allow me to work with and for individuals from the Tucson community where I had spent so much time as an undergraduate.
Public health interests:Rural Health
Interests/hobbies outside of school:My interests outside of school include going to the gym, playing sports, and hanging out with friends. I enjoy discovering new places to eat around Tucson and enjoy hiking in the area as well.
Tip for future students:Engage the material you learn in class as much as possible. There is a plethora of information in these classes and it really comes down to what you make/take from it.
