    Hometown:

    Bend, OR

    Prior Degree(s):

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing, University of Portland

    Before entering the program:

    Before beginning graduate school, I worked as a school nurse for a few years, then joined the Peace Corps where I served in Uganda for 3 years working on WASH, HIV and gender empowerment projects in rural communities.

    Why did you choose public health?

    I've always been interested in public health, even before I knew the field existed! From my experiences as a peer leader and mentor in college, serving the Peace Corps, and working as a school nurse, I've always cared deeply about health promotion and the well-being of others. I think public health will be an excellent way to turn my desire to help others into a career.

    Why did you choose MEZCOPH?

    I chose MEZCOPH because the I was ready to explore the field of public health in a completely new and rich environment that could offer me so much more than schools in my state could.

    Public health interests:

    Behavioral Health, Disease Prevention, Health Promotion, Public Health and Emergency Preparedness, School Health

    Internship:

    I am a remote Community Research Intern studying mental health among LGBTQ populations during the COVID-19 pandemic at United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona.

    Interests/hobbies outside of school:

    Soaking up nature in every way possible, book clubs, painting, cozy weather, movies, and spending quality time with friends/family.

    Tip for future students:

    Make meaningful connections with fellow students and faculty and staff! It may take some time but your experience will be 100x better for it. Making good connections during grad school helped me find my bearings and I became much more involved!
