Why choose the UA / What’s awesome about the UA:

I chose the UA because I knew I wanted to study public health and they had a great program here. I also knew many people who were alumni’s at the UA and they always had so much wildcat spirit which I loved and I know I will leave carrying that same spirit I saw in others.

Why did you choose public health?

There were many empowering women leaders in my hometown who were in charge of programs that included talking about the effects of bullying and mental health, building communication between teens and parents, and so many other things. All of them had studied public health and then returned to start their own programs and work within the community. I loved participating in community events and socializing with others as well as knowing that we were changing behaviors or improving the health or wellbeing of someone through each event. I loved the feeling and the connectedness I felt among my community and so I wanted to pursue public health to see what other things needed to be done in this world and how I can become a better culturally respectful public health professional. I also enjoy how public health is preventing people from getting sick in the first place and targeting causes rather than just bandaging or fixing the damage.

    What are your career goals:

My career goals are constantly changing the more things I learn that we can do after we graduate and so for now, I am looking into graduate school programs and may consider taking a gap year to gain more experience. In the long run, I hope to one day run my own non-profit organization in a rural community.

Fun Fact about you (hobbies, trivia, etc.):

I enjoy reading a good mystery, horror, fantasy or romance novel. I love to watch movies and I am a big DC fan. I also enjoy painting for fun and spending time with my family and friends.

One piece of advice for incoming students (transfer and freshmen):

Don’t be scared to try something new or out of your comfort zone. Maybe you hate it, but just doing it once and then saying okay I did it and can move on is such a good feeling, plus now with it out of your system, you can try something different that maybe you do enjoy. Life is short and so try as many things as you can!
