MPH Climate Change and Health

Coming Summer 2024 online and Fall 2024 in-person

Offered On Campus in Tucson and Online

Climate change stands as the single biggest threat facing humanity. Droughts, floods, severe storms, and wildfires have already displaced millions of people and caused widespread food insecurity. All of these disasters lead to a range of negative health impacts, and as these climate-driven crises unfold, it is the most vulnerable communities – the poor and disadvantaged – who suffer the most.

Public health is uniquely positioned to provide solutions to these challenges. The tools and programs used by public health professionals can help us to prepare for emerging health crises, and also empower us to find solutions when communities are faced with climate-driven disasters that threaten health and wellbeing for so many.

Students who graduate with an MPH concentration in Climate Change and Health will learn to integrate and implement a portfolio of public health methods to address the impacts of climate change on human health, animal health, and the environment. They will gain the ability to analyze health and environmental data, to collaborate across sectors to develop innovative solutions, and to deliver assessments and policies that translate research into action. This set of skills will prepare students to collaboratively build climate resilience within communities and themselves, and heal our warming world.
